UI bug when adding a new user profile synchronization connection

While setting up a new SharePoint farm, I discovered a bug in the user interface for creating new synchronization connections for the SharePoint 2010 User Profile Service. The issue is that, when an organizational unit (OU) has the same name as the domain, you can’t select the OU for synchronization.  Fortunately, there is a workaround.

The Microsoft Health Users Group is a membership community within the HIMSS Users Group Alliance Program, providing technology leadership and knowledge for improving healthcare delivery and efficiency. Members of MSHUG can network, exchange ideas, promote learning, and share solutions with more than 5,000 dedicated members around the world who use Microsoft-based technology to improve the quality and efficiency of their work environment. 

I attended MSHUG at Microsoft’s Redmond Corporate Campus in Q4 2010, and learned quite a bit about the involvement of Microsoft in the booming Healthcare space.  I thought I would share….

Pre-programming Lync calls on your Android phone

C/D/H’s internal phone and conferencing system was recently upgraded to Microsoft Lync. And since I like to take calls on the road, I often schedule meetings during this time. 

I minimize time in the median getting connected by adding a calendar entry to my phone with a pre-programmed dial sequence that connects me as an authenticated user, with all the power of a Lync “Presenter”, albeit dialed in.
