Prior to traveling down to Tech·Ed this past week, I used their online session schedule builder and downloaded all my sessions to my Outlook Calendar.  When I got to New Orleans, my phone automatically changed from Eastern Standard Time and I flipped over my laptop manually.  This, of course, uncovered an oversight on my part. I imported all the sessions in my normal time zone.  I quickly re-synced the Tech·Ed session builder via my laptop and everything looked great.  Except on my iPhone….

After some troubleshooting, (spilt across two days) including deleting all the appointments and manually assigning them time zones, I was finally able to uncover the issue.  Not only does the iPhone have a time zone change setting on the phone, you also need to go into the calendaring section of the phone and choose the new Time Zone there (Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendar -> Time Zone Support).

Voila. I changed to New Orleans’s time from Detroit and all my appointments were lined up correctly again.  As a side note, another possible remedy is to just turn off the Time Zone Support.  Then your calendar appointments are shifted to the Time Zone automatically.

It wasn’t much later that day that I overheard an iPad user complaining about his appointments.  Sure enough, it was the Time Zone Support setting.
